A White Tea Shot is a cloudy, 4-ingredient drink rich in fruity, floral flavors from peach schnapps, vodka (there are tequila and rum versions further down, too), simple syrup, and a tart kick of fresh lemon juice — and it doesn’t have a drop of actual tea.

White tea shots are a cooling hit for the ladies at summer get-togethers or bridal showers, but they’re universally used on any warm day and are mostly made in party-sized batches. Some recipes like a bubbly version, which subs lemon-lime soda for lemon juice. The best part is that they’re easy to decorate and take only 3 minutes to make.

Bar Tools

  • Cocktail shaker (a mason jar, blender bottle or travel mug can be subbed in a pinch)
  • Jigger or small measuring cup

To Serve: The ingredients don’t fit a standard shot glass but can be served in Nick and Nora glasses or spread out into shots for a more “sippable” experience at parties

Ingredients (One Serving)

  • 1 oz. Vodka (recommended: Titos)
  • 1 oz. Peach Schnapps (recommended: Aspen’s)
  • 1/2 oz. simple syrup or stevia simple syrup (check our simple syrup substitute guide for easy subs)
  • 1/2 oz. fresh-squeezed lemon juice

To Garnish: lemon wheels

Vodka White Tea Shot – How to Make

Splash vodka, peach schnapps, simple syrup, and lemon juice into a shaker with ice cubes. If you want bubbles and to not deal with squeezing lemons, sub lemon-lime soda for lemon juice. Shake well for 10-20 seconds. Strain into a Nick and Nora or a tumbler and serve up (without ice), or pour smaller servings into small shot glasses. Use small lemons to slice into medium-thickness rounds, and cut a slit halfway through the lemon wheel to the center. Hang the lemon wheel on the edge of the glass by placing the cut side around the glass.

  • ABV (alcohol by volume): 14.1%

When replacing lemon juice for Zevia zero-calorie soda, it’ll save you a few calories. But to make a sugar-free simple syrup, use stevia simple syrup and it’ll bring your drink down to 129 cal per serving and only 9 grams of sugar.

  • 1 oz. White Rum
  • 1 oz. Peach Schnapps
  • 1/2 oz. simple syrup
  • 1/2 oz. lemon-lime soda

Tequila White Tea Shot

  • 1 oz. Tequila
  • 1 oz. Peach Schnapps

History

White Tea Shots are a more recent innovation, rising in popularity in 2018. They’re increasingly trendy in the Eastern and Southeastern United States, with Florida being the most active state putting these tasty little beverages to the sip. While hot, humid states like Florida have a higher rate of imbibers, White Tea Shots are getting more popular in drier states like California (perhaps because they’re just so darn tasty).

FAQ

Why does the white tea shot have no tea?

Jameson liquor coined the Green Tea Shot, which was also entirely scant of green tea but named so for its green hue. The White Tea Shot resembles a pleasing, opaque glass of cold white tea.

What Vodka should I use?

Vodka is the one liquor that normally boasts high quality across most brands. A top-shelf vodka isn’t necessary, but a mid-level (just don’t reach for the bottom shelf) might save you from a headache. We recommend Absolut, SKYY or Grey Goose.

Can I use soda instead?

Some prefer variations with the bubbly effects of a lemon lime soda. For bubbles, sub the 1/2 oz. of lemon juice for the same amount of lemon-lime soda like Sprite, Sierra Mist, Squirt, or 7-Up. You can also use Zevia as a zero-calorie lemon-lime soda.
